I cannot even begin to imagine how difficult it would be to come into a school where your language is not the language spoken. Because I do not want language barriers to keep students from learning, I have different strategies to make it easier. I will have all ELL students sitting next to an English speaking student. This English speaking student will be there to translate if it is necessary. Also, we will take a group of ELL students into a different room for test taking, and read the material out loud so they can better understand it. I will be in contact with the parents of these students often to let them know how their student’s English learning is progressing. We will spend a great deal of time with the ELL students going over phonics so that they can grasp the concept to the fullest. After school help will be available as well.
